HKBU Model United Nations Conference enriches students’ learning experience

11 Mar 2013

The third HKBU Model United Nations Conference was held on campus from 28 February to 3 March. Students acted as delegates representing member states of the United Nations, discussing topics such as the rights of sexual minorities and the reform of the peacekeeping operations. A photo exhibition showcasing the experience of different Chinese diplomats during their visits to foreign countries was also held.

The Conference was attended by 135 students from more than 15 local and overseas secondary and tertiary institutions. After rounds of debates and discussion, student delegates from the University of Hong Kong and Hoi Ping Chamber of Commerce Secondary School won the Best Delegate Awards. Student delegates from Baptist Lui Ming Choi Secondary School and Shannxi Normal University were awarded Honorable Mentions.

The four-day conference enabled the participants to learn to respect diverse views on global affairs. They also learned how negotiation and compromise play a key role in successful international cooperation when tackling world challenges.
