University receives HK$2 million from Lam Woo Foundation Limited to establish senior reporters-in-residence scheme

28 Mar 2013

The University recently received a generous donation of HK$2 million from Lam Woo Foundation Limited designated for the establishment of the “Lam Woo Foundation Senior Reporters-in-Residence Scheme” by the Institute for Journalism and Society under the School of Communication. Under the Scheme, local and overseas senior reporters will be invited to visit the University each year to host a series of activities such as classroom sharing, keynote speech, seminars and public lectures. The University held a cheque presentation ceremony today (28 March) in recognition of the Foundation’s generosity.

The Lam Woo Foundation Senior Reporters-in-Residence Scheme aims to enable senior reporters from all over the world to have a better understanding of journalism education in Hong Kong. It also aims to enhance the knowledge base of the students and teaching staff in Hong Kong on the operation of news and media production through the sharing of experience by the seasoned reporters. It is hoped that these activities will enrich the content and perspectives of journalism education, thus fostering the sustainable development of the profession. The Scheme was launched earlier this week (25 March) with Mr. Chris Yeung, News Director of Hong Kong Economic Journal, being the first guest speaker.

Mr. Yeung became Political Editor of South China Morning Post in 1994, Associate Editor in 1999 and Editor-at-large in 2002. He joined Hong Kong Economic Journal in August 2009 and is currently News Director of the Journal's EJ Insight, an English-language website focusing on China business issues. Mr. Yeung also regularly writes critical analyses on a wide range of political, social policy and Mainland-Hong Kong issues.
