Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) organised the 54th Baccalaureate Service today (24 April) to shower its sincerest blessings on graduating students, who in turn expressed their gratitude to teachers and wished their fellow graduates the best for the future.
The honourable guest at the Service, Dr. Sun Po-ling, President of Singapore Baptist Theological Seminary, delivered a message entitled “You ain’t seen nothing yet”. He said difficulties and frustration only account for a small part of one’s life. He encouraged students to see difficulties not as threatening but as challenging in the sense that they can bring forth the best in a person.
Professor Albert Chan, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, reviewed the seven attributes that each HKBU graduate should possess, namely citizenship, knowledge, learning, skills, creativity, communication and teamwork. Professor Chan believes that HKBU’s graduating students who are about to enter society not only possess a sense of ethics and civility, but also show commitment, responsibility and the ability to solve problems.
The Baccalaureate Service, a traditional thanksgiving service at Christian universities, enables teachers and students to commemorate their academic partnerships and bid farewell to each other. HKBU’s graduating students dressed in full academic regalia attend this unique ceremony organised by the Chaplain’s Office held in the University Chapel every year.
