Visual Arts alumnus wins Hong Kong Art Prize

Visual Arts alumnus Mr. Jims Lam recently won the prestigious Hong Kong Art Prize 2013. Jims was awarded a prize of HK$80,000 for his work Beacon 〈Sheung Wan Hours - 01:05〉 which is now on display at an exhibition at Wheelock Gallery, Queensway Plaza, Admiralty, until Sunday, 2 June.  

 

As indicated by its title, the painting features a nighttime view of the residential buildings of Sheung Wan, conveying Hong Kong’s fast-paced lifestyle. It is the first of a series of paintings of 18 local districts through which Jims aims to reveal the energy of Hong Kong.  

 

Jim’s winning work was selected from among 163 entries as one of 53 shortlisted works.  A jury panel comprising nine prestigious artists then voted it the winner of the prize.
