The College of International Education (CIE) recently launched a series of 10 Other Learning Experiences (OLE) Summer Seminars with the aim of giving senior-form secondary students a flavour of the tertiary learning experience.
The seminars, co-ordinated and hosted by the five academic divisions of CIE, covered topics such as “Embarking on a News Journey”, “Environmental Conservation” and “Aesthetics of Horror Cinema”. Other topics like “English and Cinema” and “Chinese Literature Appreciation” were also held to address secondary school students’ specific needs for language training.
“To promote Whole Person Education and enrich students’ learning experience, CIE started organising OLE workshops for secondary school students two years ago. The programme has received positive feedback and was attended by over 100 secondary schools. The recent summer seminars have also seen an enrolment of more than 1,000 students,” said Dr. Sam Lau, Director of CIE.
“The mode of learning of tertiary education is different from that of secondary school. The OLE workshops provide an opportunity for students to learn about the features of our programmes and their career opportunities, which we believe can inspire them when making their study choices in the near future,” he added.
