HKBU was invited by the Development Bureau of the HKSAR Government to participate in the first “Cross Straits, Hong Kong & Macau Symposium on the Reuse of Architectural Heritage”. With the revitalisation of Lui Seng Chun project as an example, the University shared its valuable experience in the conservation of heritage buildings to over 120 experts, scholars and administrators at the Symposium held recently in Tianjin.

The University was represented by Mr. Andy Lee, Vice-President (Administration) and Secretary, and Mr. Lam Long-chau, Director of Estates, along with representatives of the consultant architect of the Lui Seng Chun project. At the symposium, HKBU showcased the fruitful results of its two successful cases of heritage conservation -- the Lui Seng Chun project and the Kai Tak Campus project. Both cases will be included a publication on the proceedings of the symposium, which will be available in the public libraries across the Mainland.

The Symposium was organised by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, the Tianjin Municipal People’s Government, Sheen Chuen-Chi Cultural & Educational Foundation in Taiwan, the Development Bureau of the HKSAR Government, and the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government. The symposium aimed to examine the reuse of built heritage in the context of principles and techniques, policy and management modes, co-operation mechanisms, social effectiveness and overall prospects.
