The University recently received a generous donation of HK$1 million from Dr. Tony Tai, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of W. Haking Enterprises Ltd, and Dr. Lo Tai-chin, the company’s Vice-Chairman, designated for the Faculty of Science Development Fund to support the teaching and research of the Faculty. In recognition of the donors’ generosity, a cheque presentation ceremony officiated by Dr. Tony Tai, Dr. Lo Tai-chin and Professor Albert Chan, President and Vice-Chancellor, was held on 24 September.
Dr. Lo Tai-chin hoped that the donation could contribute to the enhancement of teaching and research of the Faculty of Science in nurturing talent for the benefit of the society. During the event, she shared her learning experience with the guests. She expressed the view that in addition to the necessary facilities and resources, a strong faculty comprising people with professional knowledge and a passion for teaching is a prerequisite for quality teaching and learning. She highly appreciated HKBU’s philosophy of Whole Person Education and the quality of teaching at the University.
Professor Albert Chan expressed his sincere gratitude to the donors for their tremendous support for the University. He hoped that the University could count on the continuous support of the wider community for its development. To mark this occasion, Professor Chan presented a couplet that he had composed as a token of appreciation to the donors.
After the ceremony, Professor Chan hosted a dinner for the guests. Guests who attended the dinner included Mrs. Regina Leung, wife of the Chief Executive of the HKSAR; Dr. Connie Chan, Founder and Chief Executive of Tunbow Group; Ms. Wong Ling-ling, Chief Executive Officer of Realway Investment Ltd; Ms. Jenny Ng, Director of Lapton Electric and Machinery Ltd; Mr. Vincent Poon, General Manager of Techmerge (Shenzhen) Investment Development Co. Ltd; Mr. Stone Chu, General Manager of Shenzhen Nanyou Commercial Service Co. Ltd.
