School of Business welcomes 30 new members to Beta Gamma Sigma Society HKBU Chapter

The School of Business welcomed over 30 students to the HKBU Chapter of the Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) Society at its 4th Induction Ceremony on 25 April. On the occasion, Mr David Lee, Director of Lee Kum Kee Company Limited, was inducted as a Chapter Honoree in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the commercial sector and society at large. 

 

In his welcoming remarks, Mr William Leung, Chief Executive Officer of Sun Hung Kai Financial Limited and Chairman of the School of Business Advisory Committee, said that the HKBU Chapter of BGS Society recognises the excellence of the students and inculcates in them an international perspective and the qualities of a business leader. He said: “Through the BGS network, members are able to enhance their professional skills and knowledge by interacting with other members from around the world. The HKBU Chapter has also built close ties with the local commercial sector, enabling its members to expand their social connections and enrich their experience.” 

 

This year’s Chapter Honoree, Mr David Lee, Director of Lee Kum Kee Company Limited, delivered a speech entitled “Autopilot Leadership” on the occasion, sharing with the audience his keys to success and management philosophy. He said: “‘Autopilot Leadership’ is a management style developed by Lee Kum Kee and it encompasses six major elements that form the basis of constant development of a company. These six elements are ‘choose the right talent’, ‘high trust environment’, ‘highly effective team’, ‘common goal’, ‘effective empowerment’ and ‘coaching and developing talent’.” 

 

Speaking at the Ceremony, Professor Allan Chan, Acting Dean of the School of Business, said that the School places a strong emphasis on wholeperson education with a student-centred approach and is committed to the students’ academic, professional and personal development. He said: “The School encourages and supports students in taking part in a variety of extracurricular activities, such as leadership training, overseas exchange and business internships. The expanding BGS network fits right into our education agenda, exposing our students to experience that helps them grow professionally and personally.”
