The College of International Education (CIE) recently organised its first CIE English Public Speaking Contest for secondary school students, attracting about 250 participants from 38 secondary schools. Wendy Mcleod from HKMA David Li Kwok Po College won the championship. The first runner-up prize went to Sarah Poon of Tak Oi Secondary School while Aneezia from PAOC Ka Chi Secondary School snatched the second runner-up prize.

With “Silence” as the theme, the contest aimed at unleashing the imagination and eloquence of students, bolstering their self-confidence through English public speaking and nurturing them into future young leaders. Before the contest was held, lecturers from the English Team of CIE conducted a series of workshops and small-group practice sessions to equip the participants with the necessary public speaking skills.

The adjudicators of the grand final were Dr Sam Lau, Director of CIE, Dr Vicky Lee, Associate Head of CIE, and Dr Warren Linger, Lecturer of the Division of Communication of CIE.
