Year 5 students Hu Jiaji, Wong Chak-man and Leung Chun-wai studying Chinese Medicine and Biomedical Science at the School of Chinese Medicine (SCM) teamed up and won the second prize in the Hong Kong-Macau category of the Pan-Pearl River Delta Region Chinese Medicine University Students Clinical Competence Contest. In individual contests, Wong Chak-man seized the second prize in “Knowledge in Chinese Medicine Formulas” and also the third prize in “Technique in tui na”. The competition was organised by the Chinese Medicine Teaching Steering Committee of the Higher Education under the State Ministry of Education.
Held at Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine, the competition attracted 15 tertiary institutions from the Mainland, Macau and Hong Kong, including Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine, Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Hunan University of Chinese Medicine, Fujian University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Macau University of Science and Technology.
The competition aimed at testing the contestants’ Chinese medicine techniques and clinical practice skills. The teams were required to take part in 10 rounds of contests which covered areas such as Chinese medicine fundamental theory, knowledge and skills of Chinese materia medica, Chinese medicine formulas, diagnostics of Chinese medicine (tongue and pulse examination techniques), communication skills in clinical consultation, acupuncture, tui na, Chinese medicine in dermatological diseases, and included a role-play exercise based on an emergency case.
