The University formed an 860-strong team to participate in the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2015 held on 25 January. Among the runners, more than 150 of them challenged the Full Marathon, over 220 ran the Half Marathon and about 500 participated in the 10km race. Once again, HKBU was presented with the Top Ten Most Supportive Group Award.
The HKBU team comprised staff, students and alumni. Among them were Professor Albert Chan, President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Rick Wong, Vice-President (Research and Development), and Mr Andy Lee, Vice-President (Administration) and Secretary, who have all participated in the marathon for several consecutive years.
The University invited an alumnus to provide training to runners and recruited more than 150 marathon ambassadors to form a support team to offer assistance to the runners on race day. The ambassadors helped take care of the runners’ belongings and offered them food and beverages. They also formed cheering squads along the routes to encourage the athletes. As in previous years, members of the School of Chinese Medicine provided a massage service for runners. The University also took pictures of each runner at the finishing line to record the exciting moment. The enthusiasm displayed by all the participants reflected the caring spirit of the University community.
Since 2010, a cumulative total of around 4,400 runners have joined the HKBU team to participate in this annual sporting event in Hong Kong.
