Humanities student is named Top 10 Outstanding Youths and wins Outstanding Prospective Teachers Gold Award

Alvin Ng (Humanities and Creative Writing, Year 4 and Diploma in Education (2+2)) recently received the Top 10 Outstanding Youth Award of the Outstanding Youth Activity Commendation Scheme run by the Home Affairs Bureau and the Commission on Youth. He also won the Gold Award at the Outstanding Prospective Teachers Election organised by the Hong Kong Prospective Teachers’ Association.

Alvin was pleased and grateful for having won the two awards. He said he has been a student leader since his secondary school days, and has helped his alma mater organise leadership, career and life planning programmes after his graduation. At HKBU, he has been given more opportunities to participate in services. For example, as a student ambassador he has helped organise various large-scale activities, and he has also gained the opportunity to explore a wider scope of learning, enabling him to experience whole person education during his studies. He was awarded the title of Outstanding Student Ambassador in 2014.

Outside campus, Alvin has been active in social service activities and voluntary work. He joined the Hong Kong Committee for UNICEF as Voluntary School Speaker in 2012 and has since recognised the importance of children’s rights. Later, he worked as an intern and voluntary instructor at the Coordinating Committee for Children’s Council to promote children’s rights.

Alvin was frustrated by his A-level examination results, but he did not give up and performed outstandingly in his associate degree and self-funded degree studies. He was successfully admitted to the Humanities programme of HKBU. Looking forward to starting his teaching career, Alvin would like to thank teachers and staff of the Humanities and Creative Writing Department, Education Studies Department and Student Affairs Office, for their long-time support and encouragement.
