The HKBU Institute of Research and Continuing Education (IRACE), relocated to new premises at Shenzhen Virtual University Park, opened its doors last week.
Officiating guests at the opening ceremony included Professor Albert Chan, President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Rick Wong, Vice-President (Research and Development), Ms Qiu Xuan, Deputy Director of the Shenzhen Technological Innovation Committee, Ms Cao Saixian, Deputy District Governor of the Shenzhen Nanshan District People’s Government, and Professor Li Qingquan, President of Shenzhen University.
In his address, Professor Albert Chan said that Shenzhen is the most competitive city in the Chinese Mainland which has provided a lot of resources for researchers from Hong Kong. He added that the establishment of the research base for the Faculty of Science, the School of Chinese Medicine and the Faculty of Social Sciences at IRACE is a great leap forward and provides ample opportunity for future development.
Ms Qiu Xuan expressed her wish for HKBU to ride on the opening of the new premises to further enhance its research strength in physics, chemistry, mathematics and Chinese medicine.
IRACE, established in 2000, is one of the first among 26 institutions to create a bridgehead in the Shenzhen Virtual University Park. The 2,000-square-metre new base, located at the Industrialization Complex Building of the Park, houses research centres of the Faculty of Science, the School of Chinese Medicine and the Faculty of Social Sciences.
