HKBU Academy of Film Seeds Project presents 16 awards for 4th Digital Short Video Competition

The "INNO-Action! HKBU Academy of Film Seeds Project" today (6 July) presented 16 awards to winners of its 4th Digital Short Video Competition. Tam Pok-man from Christian Zheng Sheng College, director of The Bond of Fire, won the Best Director Award. The Best Drama Award went to Nano Love, submitted by Yuen Long Merchants Association Secondary School, while Yuen Long Ju Ching Chu Secondary School's entry The Sky of Arts was named Best Documentary. Today's award presentation ceremony was officiated by Mr Chan Shiu-chung, Executive Director, Youth.gov.hk, Efficiency Unit, The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region; Mr Man Shu-sum, Associate Director of the Academy of Film, School of Communication; Mr Tong Kay-ming and Mr Cheung Chi-sing, directors and adjudicators of The 4th Digital Short Video Competition; and Professor Cheuk Pak-tong of the Academy of Film, School of Communication.

Speaking at the award presentation ceremony, Professor Cheuk said that the Seeds Project, now in its fourth year, attracted more than 1,000 students from over 100 secondary schools to participate in this year's lineup of activities. The Digital Short Video Competition, one of the highlights of the Seeds Project, received a total of 96 submissions, with an encouraging standard overall. Professor Cheuk said: "We will continue our efforts to cultivate local talents who have aspiration to develop their career in the film and television sectors of Hong Kong's creative industries."

The 4th Digital Short Video Competition attracted entries from 62 secondary schools, with 71 dramas and 25 documentaries competing for 10 drama awards, four documentary awards and two special mentions newly added this year (Youth Award and Social Caring Award). Apart from Most Popular Online Drama and Most Popular Online Documentary, which were selected by the public through online voting, all the awards were determined by the adjudication panel formed by Mr Tong Kay-Ming, Mr Cheung Chi-sing, and Ms Heiward Mak, scriptwriter and director.

After the award ceremony, there was a meeting with the judges, namely directors Mr Tong Kay-ming and Mr Cheung Chi-sing who shared with the students their insights on creativity and their experiences in creative work.

"INNO-Action! HKBU Academy of Film Seeds Project" specialises in training secondary school students' creativity. It was initiated and developed by the Academy of Film of the School of Communication of HKBU and Youth.gov.hk, and has been sponsored by Create Hong Kong (CreateHK) of the HKSAR Government since the project was first launched. The Digital Short Video Competition of the Seeds Project aims to nurture young students' creativity and potential through creative filmmaking.
