The University held a cheque presentation ceremony today (30 September) in recognition of a generous donation of HK$8 million from Mr Yip Mow-lum, Chairman of Bright Smart Securities & Commodities Group Limited in support of HKBU’s institutional advancement.

Mr Cheng Yan-kee, Chairman of the Council and the Court of HKBU and Professor Roland Chin, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU received the cheque from Mr Yip Mow-lum.

In his remarks, Professor Roland Chin said that the inspiring life story of Mr Yip shares some similarities with that of HKBU which has been striving towards excellence over the decades. Mr Yip shared how he began his career as a humble salesman and became a renowned entrepreneur. He reminded students to contribute to their alma mater as well as to society.

During the recent stock market plunge, Mr Yip showed his support to the Company by increasing his stake in it. Later, he sold those shares when the market rebounded and donated all the profit from this transaction to HKBU with the aim of supporting the University’s long-term development and educational endeavours to nurture talent for the betterment of Hong Kong.
