The School of Communication, in collaboration with Institute of Communication Studies of Communication University of China, held the Fourth International Conference on Media Literacy: Multidisciplinary Approach to Media Literacy Research and Practice on 5 and 6 November.
The two-day conference aimed at providing a platform for exchange among academics and educators on the new development path of media literacy education.
More than 70 academics and educators from more than 10 countries, including the Czech Republic, India, Mainland China, Singapore, Sweden and the US participated in three plenary sessions and 10 panels of the conference.
Professor Ringo Ma, Associate Dean, School of Communication at HKBU and Professor Yanqiu Zhang, Deputy Dean, Faculty of Journalism and Communication, Communication University of China officiated at the opening ceremony. In his speech, Professor Ma described it as an important conference as some of the distinguished speakers and panelists had been involved in establishing media literacy education from the ground up and that they will be key figures, with their valuable insights, in shaping education in this field in the next decades.
Plenary Speakers at the conference included Professor Andrew Burn, Professor of Institute of Education at University College London; Dr Donna Chu, Associate Professor of School of Journalism and Communication at the Chinese University of Hong Kong; Professor Ellen Seiter, Professor of School of Cinematic Arts at University of Southern California.
