Dr Chen Shumei, Post-doctoral Research Fellow of the Institute of Advanced Materials of HKBU, recently won the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship presented by the European Commission for her research proposal entitled “NonlinearMeta” which received a very high evaluation score from the Physics panel of the fellowship scheme. Dr Chen will receive a fellowship grant of around 200,000 Euros to support her two-year research study to be conducted in the Metamaterials Research Centre, led by scientist Professor Zhang Shuang, School of Physics and Astronomy, University of Birmingham, UK.
Dr Chen will spend the fellowship grant for secondment visits to Seagate Technology UK and initiate collaborations with European high-tech companies. In addition, she plans to continue her collaboration with the research team led by Professor Cheah Kok-wai, Director of the Institute of Advanced Materials at HKBU.
Dr Chen completed both her undergraduate studies and PhD degree at the Department of Physics of HKBU. While undertaking her PhD, she published six papers in renowned journals including Physical Review Letters, Nature Communications and Nano Letters.
