History Department and Library launches “Sun Yat-sen Parks in the World” Database

The Department of History and the University Library collaborated to create the “Sun Yat-sen Parks in the World” Database. The Database contains information on 106 Sun Yat-sen parks worldwide, supplemented by details on those Sun Yat-sen parks that no longer exist.

 

Mr Henry Tan, CEO of Luen Thai International Group Ltd, Professor Rick Wong, Vice-President (Research and Development), Professor Frank Fu, Associate Vice-President, Mr Li Hexie, Senior Former Vice President of Luen Thai International Group Ltd, Professor Clara Ho, Head of History, Mr Paul Lee, Acting University Librarian and Mrs Lily Chan, Director of the University Advancement Office officiated at the launching ceremony which was held on 11 March.

 

The Database, which offers a significant amount of textual and visual materials for readers, is now accessible online via “History in Data” under HKBU Library’s digital services. For details, please refer to http://digital.lib.hkbu.edu.hk/sunyatsen/

 

This project is funded by the “Sun Yat-sen Research Fund” jointly established by Luen Thai International Group Ltd, Tan Siu Lin Foundation, and Sun Yat-sen Education and Charity Foundation. The project is managed by the Department of History, which will also present related activities annually.

 

The launching ceremony was followed by two public lectures. Two distinguished speakers, Professor Chen Yunqian from the Centre for the Study of the Republic of China at Nanjing University and Professor Joseph Ting from the Department of History of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, delivered lectures entitled “On the Political and Cultural Dimensions of Sun Yat-sen Parks” and “On the Establishment and Political Connotation of the Huanghua Gang Commemoration Park” respectively.
