The School of Business hosted the fifth lecture of the Entrepreneurship Seminar Series last Wednesday (13 April) delivered by Mr Thomas Chan, Managing Director of Wai Yuen Tong Medicine Holdings Ltd, who shared on the topic “CEO, the ability to change”. The seminar, which attracted over 200 guests, alumni, faculty members and students, including some 100 industry practitioners and senior management officials from the private sector, provided a platform for professionals and aspiring students to exchange business ideas on entrepreneurship and corporate innovation.

Mr Thomas Chan is currently Managing Director of Wai Yuen Tong Medicine Holdings Ltd, and author of CEO: the ability to change is key to success and Riccardo’s World. In his sharing, Mr Chan cited popular case studies of Lego and The Walt Disney Company to signify the importance of change to a corporation’s development. In both instances, strategic changes made room for speedy and sustainable growth, often in the form of strategic acquisitions. He highlighted how companies that failed to make changes would eventually fall behind.

In addition, Mr Chan also shared the networking experiences of a renowned Japanese CEO which has inspired him to set a target of making 100 new friends every year. He took every opportunity to dine with different people and finally completed the target within a year. His horizons were also broadened through the interaction with these people. Mr Chan encouraged the younger generations to always be thankful to be able to see the world even when they encounter frustrations.
