A 16-member delegation including representatives from German federal ministries and German higher education institutions led by Dr Volker Meyer-Guckel, Deputy Secretary General, Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft, visited HKBU on 23 April to learn about eLearning endeavours at the University.

The HKBU representatives who received the delegation included Professor Werner Hess, Associate Head of the Department of Government and International Studies; Dr Tushar Chaudhuri, programme director of the European Studies programme; Dr Eva Wong, Director of the Centre for Holistic Teaching and Learning; and Mr Peter Li, Director of International Office.

Dr Meyer-Guckel commended Dr Chaudhuri’s project entitled “EU-Hong Kong School Project on Green Living and Sustainability in the Community” which showed clear learning outcomes that helped students learn about environmental protection. The project adopted eLearning to enable cross-cultural understanding and cooperation, ultimately leading to academic research.

The delegation thanked HKBU for sharing their elearning experience and commended the student-centered, outcome-based philosophy that underlies the University’s elearning practices, and its bottom-up approach to introducing new pedagogies.

The delegation visited Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong last week to get a better insight into the innovation dynamics and developments in digital education in the university sector in Asia. The visits were aimed at learning more about national policies, university strategies and best practice examples.
