Hong Kong Baptist University announced today the appointment of Professor Raymond So Wai-man as Dean of Continuing Education to succeed Dr Simon Wong who will retire in July 2016. Professor So will assume duty on 1 August 2016.
Professor Raymond So is currently the Dean of the School of Business and Professor of Finance at the Hang Seng Management College (HSMC). Before joining HSMC in 2010, he was Associate Professor in the Department of Finance at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, where he had assumed various academic leadership roles including Associate Dean (Undergraduate Studies) in the Faculty of Business Administration, Director of Studies in Undergraduate Studies in Integrated Business Administration, and directorship of a number of bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes.
Professor So received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Business Administration at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, a PhD in Finance from Louisiana State University, USA and a second bachelor’s degree in Law at Tsinghua University in Mainland China.
A well-known scholar in the field of finance, Professor So’s research interests include corporate governance, e-finance, international finance, global financial markets and investment. His research findings were presented at international academic conferences and published in reputable international journals. Professor So is keen to contribute to society. He is the Chairman of the Finance Committee of the Hong Kong Housing Authority, Chairman of the Energy Advisory Committee of the Environment Bureau, Member of The Standard Working Hours Committee, and Member of the Assessment Panel on Public Policy Research Funding Scheme of the Central Policy Unit. He was appointed as Justice of the Peace by the HKSAR Government in 2013.
Professor Roland Chin, President and Vice-Chancellor, is pleased with the appointment. He said: “Professor Raymond So is a distinguished scholar with solid experience in higher education administration and management. We are confident that under his leadership, our School of Continuing Education will continue to provide diversified quality education, from early childhood, sub-degree, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes to professional and lifelong education courses, so as to nurture young talents and benefit adult learners who wish to upgrade their academic qualifications and professional skills.”
Professor Chin also extended his heartfelt gratitude to Dr Simon Wong for his dedication and significant contributions during his 16-year tenure as Dean of Continuing Education and for his almost 30 years of service to HKBU.
