HKBU (Haimen) Institute of Science and Technology signs MOUs to promote cross-sector collaboration

Hong Kong Baptist University (Haimen) Institute of Science and Technology (IST) organised earlier an open house event and signed Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs) with the Management Committee of Riverside New District of Haimen and four enterprises, marking a new milestone of IST in its collaboration with industry, academia and research sectors.

 

Over 100 guests attended the open day and the signing ceremony of MOUs, including Mr Jiang Long, Secretary of Haimen Municipal People's Government, Mr Yang Caoming, Mayor of Haimen City, Mr Xu Jun, Secretary of the Management Committee of Riverside New District of Haimen, Mr Zhang Yong, Director of the Management Committee of Riverside New District of Haimen, Professor Yang Teng-kuei, Honorary Dean of IST, Professor Roland Chin, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, Professor Albert Chan, President Emeritus of HKBU, Professor Rick Wong, Vice-President (Research and Development), Chairman of the Board and Dean of IST, representatives of enterprises and HKBU academics.

 

In his welcome address, Professor Rick Wong said that since IST was officially opened in April last year, it has made significant progress in nurturing dual PhD students, building infrastructure and advancing research. “From this year onwards, we will be co-operating with the enterprises in the Haimen Biotech and Pharmaceutical Park to nurture top-level talents for the Park and to activate collaboration across industry, academia and research sectors.”

 

The Industry-Academy Cooperation Committee was formed on that day by IST jointly with the Government of the Riverside New District of Haimen and enterprises with the aim of establishing a new platform for nurturing high-quality talents, advancing innovative research and sharing of research outcomes. The first batch of enterprises signing the MOUs includes Hong Kong Huabao Precision Medicine Limited, Genfortune Pharmaceuticals Limited, Shanghai Daqi Bio-Pharm Limited and Nantong Nanfuding Bio-Pharm Limited.

 

In addition, IST has established the Institute of Precision Medicine and Innovative Drug which focuses on precision medicine and innovative drug discovery. The Instrument Service Platform has also begun operations, serving the enterprises in the Park with state-of-the-art instruments and equipment.
