The Language Centre of the Faculty of Arts has established the “Hong Kong Literature Promotion Platform”, which aims at promoting Hong Kong literature to the public through a variety of events. The University also received a donation of HK$2.75 million from Ms Belinda Hung Kwai-yi, Director of the Hung Hing Ying and Leung Hau Ling Charitable Foundation, to set up the Hung Leung Hau Ling Young Writer Award through the new Platform.

The establishment ceremony of the Hong Kong Literature Promotion Platform as well as the Young Writer Award was held today and was officiated by Professor Roland Chin, President and Vice-Chancellor, Ms Belinda Hung, and Professor Chen Zhi, Acting Dean of Arts.

Dr Chu Shu-cheung, Director of the Hong Kong Literature Promotion Platform and also Senior Lecturer of the Language Centre, said the Platform was established to fill the current void that has resulted from the absence of a university-based body set up solely for the purpose of promoting Hong Kong literature through organising events.

The Platform will organise a vast array of events to promote Hong Kong literature, it will also link up literature events currently organised by the Language Centre, including the Intervarsity Creative Writing Competition, Outstanding Young Creative Writer Award, Chinese Script Writing Award, the award-winning works publishing scheme, publication of Tributary, and the Lion Rock Chinese Poetry Reading. The Platform will also co-organise public talks and events on Hong Kong literature with other organisations.

Dr Chu said the Hung Leung Hau Ling Young Writer Award will be inaugurated in 2018. With a cash prize of HK$80,000, the Award aims at encouraging young writers in Hong Kong to pursue creative writing.
