From birth to career planning: experts from these fields share latest theories and practices on dyslexia at HKBU

The Department of Education Studies, together with six other reputable parties in Hong Kong, held a Dyslexia Symposium 2016 on 3 December. The symposium provided a valuable opportunity for the public to have a deeper and fuller understanding of this learning disorder, from the medical to the school and career planning perspectives.

Experts and scholars in the various fields presented their latest findings, including Dr Catherine Lam, retired ex-Vice-chairperson of the Child Assessment Centre of the Health Department of HKSAR, Dr Tang Kit-yi, Lecturer 1 of the Department of Education Studies, Mr Franky Poon, Vice Principal of HKRSS Tai Po Secondary School, Mr Danny Wong, registered Educational Psychologist, Ms Angie Liu and Ms Macy Pang, teachers from the Language Department, Youth College, Vocational Training Council, Ms Gloria Keung, Manager (Youth Development) of the Hong Kong PHAB Association and her colleague Ms Mok Yu-yin, and Mrs Gladys Hung, Honorary Lecturer of Department of Social Work and Social Administration, The University of Hong Kong.

During the symposium, different areas of expertise, points of view and age groups concerned were raised to increase society’s awareness and care for children with dyslexia, with the hope that a more ideal and happy learning environment will be prepared for these children.
