HKBU appoints Associate Vice-President (Engagement)

The University announced today the appointment of Mr Yeung Chee-kong as Associate Vice-President (Engagement) to succeed Professor Frank Fu who will retire on 1 January 2017. Mr. Yeung will assume duty on 1 March 2017.

As Associate Vice-President (Engagement), Mr Yeung will take charge of the strategic direction of outreach activities, stakeholder engagement and branding, while overseeing the operations of offices responsible for alumni relations, communication and public relations, and university advancement.

A veteran public relations and communication specialist, Mr Yeung has been serving both the public and the private sector, including Cathay Pacific Airways, the Hong Kong Jockey Club, the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation, the Hong Kong Government, the Legislative Council Secretariat, and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. In higher education, he has served as Director of University Development and Public Affairs at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and as Professor of Practice at The Chinese University of Hong Kong’s School of Journalism and Communication. He is currently Director of Public Affairs at the Open University of Hong Kong.

President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Roland Chin welcomes Mr Yeung to the University’s senior management team. He said: “Mr Yeung has all-round expertise and impressive experience in communication and stakeholder engagement, as well as in higher education administration and teaching. I am confident that our engagement with students, alumni, supporters and members of society, both locally and globally, will be further enhanced under his leadership.”

Mr Yeung received his BSocSc from The University of Hong Kong and MPhil (Communication) from The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
