The HKBU’s Department of Economics partnered with InvestHK to organise Hong Kong’s first FinTech Week, an event held to encourage start-up companies to explore ways of becoming change-makers and innovators. Boudica Wang, a Year 3 student of the Bachelor of Social Sciences in China Studies (Economics concentration) programme, took part in one of the signature events, called ICE PITCH@FinTech Startups competition, and her outstanding presentation won her the “Most Popular by Audience Award”.
Boudica introduced “HeyCoins”, a company that offers innovative coin solutions by turning low-value coins into e-cash, e-coupons and digital gifts to add extra value to them. Such an idea can help lower costs for charities and non-profit companies and serve as a successful example of how to create collective societal goods across Asia.
Organised by Incu-Lab, an internship partner of the Department of Economics, the ICE PITCH@FinTech Startups was described as a “100-hour Hackathon + Pitching” event, encouraging the industry-wide exchange of FinTech ideas and promoting the continuous growth of FinTech startups.
