About 100 students from the senior classes of 20 secondary schools joined the first Summer Camp organised by the College of International Education of the School of Continuing Education. Aiming to provide an early exposure of university life, the Summer Camp was designed to enable participants to explore their personal strengths and interests, an experience that will be useful for them in making choices for university study.
A variety of workshops were on offer covering areas including arts and languages, business, communication, applied science and social sciences. Participants could choose to attend the workshops according to their interests. Some of the featured workshops included “English Forum” and “Escape from Poverty”. The former introduced English debating skills whereas the latter was designed to arouse students’ awareness of the wealth gap and other local social issues through a modified Monopoly game.
Through these activities and an overnight stay at HKBU campus halls, the participants experienced the colourful life of a university student and were made ready to take advantage of the rewarding opportunities that lie ahead for them.
