Four international writers joined the University’s International Writers’ Workshop (IWW) and commenced their one-month residency on campus for cross-cultural literary exchange with members of the University community, the local literary circles as well as the general public.
The visiting writers are Mr Ko Ko Thett (poet, poetry editor and translator from Myanmar), Ms Nguyen Bao-chan, (poet and television editor from Vietnam), Mr Lo Chih-cheng (poet, writer, cultural critic, and media worker from Taiwan), and Ms Yu Xiang (poet and visual artist from Mainland China). During their stay they will discuss and share their ideas on this year’s theme which is “Mixing & Making”.
HKBU held a welcome reception for the writers yesterday (30 October) at which Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs of HKSAR Government Mrs Betty Fung, HKBU’s President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Roland Chin, Acting Dean of Arts Professor Johnny Poon, members of the University and the local cultural community greeted the writers. On the occasion, the writers read excerpts from their creative works.
A series of public activities have been organised for the writers to share with the general public. These include:
HKBU launched the IWW in 2004, the first workshop of its kind in Asia. With a specific theme each year, the Workshop encourages and enhances literary creativity within the University community as well as in Hong Kong.
