Journalism students win seven awards at campus news award competition

A total of 10 Journalism undergraduates claimed a total of seven awards in the Chinese and English categories at the China Daily Campus Newspaper Awards 2017 organised by China Daily Hong Kong Edition. 

 

In the Chinese category, HKBU students won the following awards:


Best in Overall Design: an article jointly written by Chinese Journalism Year 4 students Lee Ying, Kiu Ka-wing, Lau Ka-man and Hui Wai-yu, published in San Po Yan, a news magazine produced by journalism students

 

Best in News Page Design: an article by Chinese Journalism fresh graduate Wong Hoi-yan, published in San Po Yan

 

First runner-up in Features Video Reporting: a video work by Broadcast Journalism fresh graduate Chan Kar-wing, on Broadcast News Network run by journalism students

 

In the English category, HKBU students won the following awards:

 

Best in Headline Writing: an article entitled “Breastfeeding Still At Infancy Stage?” by International Journalism Year 3 student Li Wing-kiu

 

Best in Arts and Culture News Reporting: an article “The Rise and Fall of Traditional Craftsmanship – Time is slipping away, but some local crafts are here to stay” by International Journalism Year 3 student Chik Chiu-wai

 

First runner-up prize in Business News Reporting: an article entitled “China’s film market faces challenges amid weak box office sales” by Financial Journalism Year 4 student Zhou Keyu

 

Second runner-up prize in News Page Design: an article entitled “Getting Away from Petty People” by International Journalism Year 4 student Nicole Kwok.

 

All these articles were published in the English news publication produced by journalism students The Young Reporter.

 

This year, the competition attracted over 600 entries from journalism students from 28 universities in Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and Mainland China. The works include news or feature stories, newspaper layouts, photos and videos.
