The Department of History, the Department of Chinese Language and Literature and the Mr Simon Suen and Mrs Mary Suen Sino-Humanitas Institute jointly presented a distinguished lecture delivered by Professor David Wang, the Edward C Henderson Professor of Chinese and Comparative Literature, Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations, Harvard University.
Professor Wang, a major leader in the field of Sinophone literature, gave the lecture, themed “Sinophone/Xinophone Studies: New Horizons of Chinese Studies”, on 19 September. In contrast to some scholars in the field of Sinophone studies, who are more inclined to apply theories of post-colonialism and post-imperialism, Professor Wang advocates the importance of historical perspectives in order to yield more fruitful research.
