Alumni join online dialogue with President Roland Chin on students’ well being

Around 200 alumni and supporters of HKBU participated in real-time dialogue sessions with Professor Roland Chin, President of HKBU, and other members of the University’s senior management team through an online platform in early April to explore ways to help graduating HKBU students under Project SEED (Students Engagement, Enhancement, and Development). The new HKBU initiative aims to help its graduating students in light of the difficulties they will encounter during the COVID-19 outbreak. 


During the dialogue sessions, President Chin shared how the University and the alumni community have reached out to the community at large during the COVID-19 outbreak, and how despite social distancing measures, caring hearts have pulled together to offer help. He then revealed the difficulties that the current cohort of graduating students will face, and how the ideas underpinning Project SEED have evolved to assist these students. The participants also had a fruitful discussion on the four core areas of the Project, namely SEED Mentorship, SEED Jobs, SEED Internship, and SEED Incubator. 


Foreseeing the grave difficulties the graduating cohort will encounter during the current economic downturn, the University hopes, through Project SEED, to encourage its students to engage more extensively with the community at large, enrich their outlook on life, and develop their professional competency for a rewarding career and, eventually, a fulfilling life.

  1. SEED Mentorship: share life experiences and mentor HKBU students on their personal and career development
  2. SEED Jobs: advise on career planning and enhance job-seeking skills; provide business referrals and references; connect students with career opportunities
  3. SEED Internship: provide part-time job opportunities, internship experience and job attachment
  4. SEED Incubator: encourage alumni experts to guide and support student start-up ventures, e.g. services in online marketing, corporate video making, website design, computer solutions, event organising, and translation
