Graduating class representatives share thoughts on Project SEED with HKBU senior management

Around 40 graduating class representatives discussed Project SEED with members of the University’s senior management team during a web meeting on 8 May. The new university-wide initiative is helping graduating students prepare for the world of work, and the difficulties they will encounter, during the current economic downturn. 

 

The class representatives were joined by Dr Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning), Professor Arthur Mak, Associate Vice-President (Student Experience), and the management of the Alumni Affairs Office and the Office of Student Affairs.  

 

During the meeting, Dr Chau spoke about how the ideas underpinning Project SEED have evolved to assist graduating students in the pursuit of their personal and professional goals amidst the current difficult circumstances. Class representatives, who were nominated by their Faculties or Schools, sincerely shared the current challenges they are facing and their special needs. Thoughtful suggestions and comments were made to enhance the practicability of the various plans under Project SEED. Senior management also gave class representatives instant guidance on career planning and further study.

 

Project SEED aims to assist the graduating class on several fronts:

 

  1. SEED Mentorship: a stage-by-stage mentorship development programme has been put in place to engage alumni and mentor students on their personal and career development
  2. SEED Jobs: career opportunities are solicited for graduates, while job consultations, business referrals and references have been arranged on an ongoing basis
  3. SEED Internship: part-time work, internship experience and job attachment opportunities are provided to students and graduates
  4. SEED Incubator: training workshops and experience sharing sessions are planned with the aim of supporting student start-up ventures
