China Studies programme undergraduate students Cai Tik-lung and Ling Xiaobang teamed up with associate degree student Chan Pang-ho to participate in the first Hong Kong youth flag-raising ceremony competition. They won the first runner-up prize and were named as the team with the best appearance in the competition’s tertiary institution category.

Jointly organised by the Hong Kong Army Cadets Association and Seeds of Hope, the competition and its award presentation ceremony were held on 4 September. The contest was divided into tertiary institution, primary school, and secondary school categories. The judging panel chose the winning team from each of the categories based on their performance, including their dress and appearance, as well as their foot drill and flag-raising technique.

The purpose of the competition is to promote national education and help Hong Kong youths develop a sense of belonging to the nation. It also aims to increase their affection for the Chinese people and enhance their national identity.
