The Office of Student Affairs held the Scholarship and Financial Aid Donor Appreciation Reception 2022-23 on 19 May to express the University’s gratitude to donors for their generosity and ardent support over the years. The event also provided an opportunity for the beneficiaries to thank the donors in person, which was well attended by nearly 250 donors, staff and students.

Speaking on the occasion, Professor Alexander Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor, said that over 2,800 scholarships and over 150 bursaries have been offered to students in the 2022-23 academic year, amounting to about HK$96 million. He thanked the donors for recognising the efforts of the students, alleviating their financial burden, and encouraging them to balance their academic excellence with whole-person development.

Dr Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning), reported on the progress and impact of two prominent funding schemes of the University. He said that the First-Generation University Student Fund has received HK$10 million in donations and benefitted over 1,700 students since its establishment in 2017. He also shared that Project SEED (Student Engagement, Enrichment and Development) has received donation totaling nearly HK$12.5 million over the past three years. The HKBU SEED Fund, made available under Project SEED in 2020, has provided timely assistance to over 240 needy students and supported various initiatives, such as service-learning and social innovation projects, student exchange programmes as well as the Subsidised Internship Scheme and Virtual Internship Scheme.
