HKBU organised the HKBU Secondary School Principals’ Day 2023 with the theme “Nurturing the Future Leader: Transdisciplinarity & Creativity” on 1 February, engaging around 150 principals and teachers from 100 secondary schools. The annual signature event provides a platform for the secondary school sector to exchange ideas with the University community on emerging education topics.
In his opening remarks, Professor Alexander Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, highlighted the University’s major developments and innovations, including the establishment of the School of Creative Arts in July 2022, the inception of four new transdisciplinary programmes in 2022/23, as well as the planned completion of the new Jockey Club Campus of Creativity in 2024.
Mr Alfred Sit Wing-hang, Senior Advisor to the President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, attended as the Keynote Speaker of the Plenary Session and shared his insights on the future of education in response to technological changes and global needs. He shared how educators may prepare the next generation to become future-ready leaders who can combine transdisciplinary mindsets and capabilities to create and innovate, and turn crises and challenges into opportunities.
Professor William Cheung, Associate Vice-President (Undergraduate Programmes), and Miss Cherry Chan, an undergraduate student of the Bachelor of Business Administration Programme, were the respondents in the panel discussion session, which was facilitated by Dr Glos Ho, Director of the Division of Transdisciplinary Undergraduate Programmes.
Participants engaged in in-depth discussions with HKBU representatives and other guests during the parallel sessions and seminars offered by the faculties and schools, the Division of Transdisciplinary Undergraduate Programmes, the Library, the Office of Student Affairs and the Centre for Innovative Service-Learning. They also joined guided tours of student learning and research facilities in the School of Communication, the Visualisation Research Centre, the Integrated Science Laboratory, the Library, the TriAngle Social Innovation Co-working Space and Village CARE.
