HKBU student athletes scored impressive achievements at the FISU World University Games 2023 held in Chengdu from 28 July to 8 August. Cheung Ka-long and Lau Chi-lung, students of the Physical Education and Recreation Management programme, brought home a total of two gold and one silver medals.
Ka-long and Chi-lung, respectively a member of the Fencing Team and Wushu Team of Hong Kong, China, are among the 18 HKBU student athletes who participated in 28 events of the Games. Ka-long shined the stage by securing two gold medals in Men’s Foil Individual and Team events, while Chi-lung earned a silver medal in Men's Nanquan competition with his outstanding performance.
Colleagues from the Department of Sport, Physical Education and Health (SPEH) also contributed to the Games in different roles. Ms Assunta Ng, Lecturer of SPEH, was the coach of Hong Kong’s Badminton Team in the Games. She led the Team to scoop its first-ever bronze medal in the Men’s Single event. In addition, Miss Elain Mak, Lecturer of SPEH, actively participated in the Games as a support team member of Hong Kong’s delegation.
