Chinese medicine students Chen Chi-kiu (Year 4) and Yip Ka-yan (Year 5) have each received a scholarship of HK$150,000 from the Innovation Technology Scholarship Award 2023, which was jointly established by the Innovation and Technology Commission, HSBC and The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups.
Chi-kiu sees Chinese and Western medicine collaboration as an essential part of the medical system's development. The scholarship enables her to gain a comprehensive understanding of this integration through joining different programmes provided by institutions in the Mainland and abroad.
Ka-yan aspires to combine Chinese herbal drug extraction and chemotherapy drug therapies to provide collaborative treatments to cancer patients. She is taking her practicum at the Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. She intends to expand her knowledge of cutting-edge oncology treatments, including genetic therapies, by taking online courses from prestigious universities.
Established in 2011, the Scholarship aims to encourage outstanding students to join the innovation and technology industry, as well as identify and nurture more talent. There were a total of 25 award recipients this year.
