Thirteen HKBU international students who joined the University this academic year have been awarded the Belt and Road Scholarship by the HKSAR Government. Among them are 11 undergraduate students and two research postgraduate students from Bangladesh, Georgia, Ghana, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Myanmar and Vietnam.
Luka Turmanidze from Georgia, who is enrolled in the Bachelor of Science programme, is one of the awardees. He said: “The scholarship has ignited within me a sense of pride and accomplishment as it serves as an acknowledgement of all my academic and personal efforts in recent years. So far, I find the university life at HKBU both intriguing and indulging. The laboratories are outstanding as they provide me with opportunities to enhance my knowledge through well-designed practice. The abundance of extra-curricular activities and student resources also allow me to actively engage with the BU community.”
The Belt and Road Scholarship was established with the aim of attracting more outstanding students from countries or regions along the Belt and Road to pursue full-time publicly-funded university studies in Hong Kong. Each year, participating institutions receive invitations to nominate newly-enrolled students to compete for the awards. Awardees are granted a scholarship that covers their full tuition fees.
