Journalism students and alumni win Consumer Rights Reporting Awards

Monday, 4 December 2023

Students Ng Pui-yi, Li Ching-lam, Iu Cheuk-tung and fresh graduate Leung Hoi-laam from the Department of Journalism at the School of Communication, have been awarded the Bronze Award in the Tertiary Student Journalism Award category at the 23rd Consumer Rights Reporting Awards organised by the Consumer Council.

Their award-winning feature story was published in the student publication San Po Yan. The work exposes the fact that despite the implementation of a series of anti-touting measures launched by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department at the end of 2022, there are still "queuing gangs" openly reselling, acquiring, or speculating on government sports and recreational facilities through instant messaging apps or social media groups. It is a telling observation that touting activities show no signs of waning.

In addition, seven journalism alumni were also commended for their outstanding works in various categories, including the Investigative Reporting Award, Audio Reporting Award, Feature Writing Award, Video Reporting Award (Long Clip), and the Best Use of Social Platform in Consumer Advocacy.
