The inaugural "HKBU Academy of Film x Shaw Studios Creative Project Awards" jointly launched by the Academy of Film (AF) and Shaw Studios received an overwhelming response. Two outstanding short film projects, Old Chap and Lung Fu, submitted respectively by Zhou Xiaolan, a recent graduate from the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Film and Television programme, and Ng Ka Long, a recent graduate of the Higher Diploma in Creative Film Production programme, stood out among approximately 600 participants, winning the awards.
Targeting AF undergraduate students and recent graduates, the Awards aims to provide students with practical opportunities and foster creative talents. Its judging panel comprises professionals from the film industry.
AF provided a maximum funding of HKD$80,000 for the winning projects and invited renowned directors Mr Adam Wong Sau-ping and Ms Mo Lai Yan-chi to serve as the respective producers of the two award-winning short films. They commended the submissions for their immense potential, sincerity and creative ingenuity. They also expressed their appreciation of the exceptional quality of the completed award-winning short films.
Shaw Studios offered their studios and an array of production and screening facilities to support the students. The production of the two winning short films has been completed. Currently, they are being submitted to various film festivals, with the aspiration of gaining further recognition.
