The Faculty of Science hosted a spring gathering on 11 February to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit. Around 100 students, staff, alumni and friends of the Faculty attended the event.

In his opening remarks, Professor Liu Jiming, Associate Vice-President (Research Development) and Dean of Science, welcomed all the participants and highlighted the Faculty’s recent accomplishments, including the latest developments in undergraduate programmes, a number of faculty members being named highly cited researchers worldwide, remarkable attainments in soliciting research funding, and the implementation of the Global STEM Professorship Scheme launched by the Hong Kong SAR Government.

Professor Rick Wong, Interim Provost, shared two momentous achievements of the University in his officiating address. They include the University’s pioneering role in promoting art-tech to support Hong Kong’s status as an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange, and the initiative to launch four transdisciplinary programmes to equip students with the necessary skills for the changing world.

At the event, Miss Mok Sin-hing and Professor Leo Poon Lit-man were presented with the Distinguished Science Alumni Award for Lifetime Achievement, and another 21 alumni were presented with the Distinguished Science Alumni Award in recognition of their outstanding achievements and contributions to the University and the community.
