HKBU students attend the University Scholars Leadership Symposium

Khun Lar Bway (Year 4, Marketing), Zhou Yubo (Year 3, Business Computing and Data Analytics), Lee Nim-ching (Year 2, Innovation in Health and Social Well-Being), and Mr Nicholas Ooi, Innovation Lead of the Centre for Innovative Service-Learning, attended the 11th University Scholars Leadership Symposium in Bangkok from 1 to 4 August. The Symposium discussed how to drive societal change through leadership, social innovation and the power of entrepreneurship.

The three students presented their novel ideas and shared their social innovative projects focusing on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals at the Symposium. Their learning experience was also enriched by exchanging ideas with other university students across the world. Participants expressed interest in Zhou Yubo’s social innovation project that focuses on animal conservation and indicated their desire to collaborate.

On the third day of the Symposium, the students participated in the “Kindness Day” arranged by the organiser to serve the needy, including river cleaning, mangrove planting and primary school wall painting.

Organised by the Humanitarian Affairs Asia, the Symposium attracted around 450 distinguished students and young leaders from 52 countries. It aims to nurture talents to improve society, inspire and equip global young leaders in the next generation with the essential skills and mindsets to create a positive impact in the community. It also hopes to motivate youngsters to achieve or promote the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations.
