ReCube, a social enterprise jointly operated by Simon Ng Tsz-chung (Year 4, Marketing) and students from another university, has won the Climate Action Acceleration Award with a funding of HK$180,000 to accelerate the growth of the enterprise and facilitate project implementation on combating climate change.

ReCube is supported by the Social Innovation Kick-start Fund provided by TriAngle under the Centre for Innovative Service-Learning of HKBU, and it was awarded the first-runner-up at the HKBU’s “Techstars_ Startup Weekend” activity. ReCube offers reusable tableware borrowing service and implements a green reward programme to encourage diners and restaurants to reduce takeaway packaging.

Simon, as the Chief Marketing Officer of ReCube, applied what he has learnt in class to develop marketing strategies for the enhancement of its brand awareness. He and his partners believe that green living is never a trade-off for convenience or financial benefit. Reusing tableware can create win-win outcomes-convenient to diners, profitable to restaurants, and eco-friendly to the earth.

The Climate Action Acceleration Award is part of the Climate Action Recognition Scheme, which is initiated by Wofoo Social Enterprises’ Hong Kong SDG Hub and co-organised by the Environment and Ecology Bureau of the HKSAR Government. The Scheme aims to support and invest in innovative and outstanding start-up ideas which take actions in combating climate change problems.
