HKBU received a generous donation of HK$10 million from the Tencent Charity Foundation in 2022 to provide free treatment service to COVID patients. The Foundation has decided to utilise the remaining balance of its donation, totalling HK$1.85 million, to establish the Tencent for Good Scholarship to motivate and inspire young people to engage in community service, thereby promoting a culture of philanthropy.
For six consecutive years starting from the academic year 2023-24, the Tencent for Good Scholarship will be awarded annually to 15 eligible undergraduate students who have actively participated in community or charitable work. Each of them will be awarded a scholarship of HK$20,000. Applicants are required to complete at least 30 hours of relevant service over the previous year, and submit a video with the theme “Together we make a better world” to showcase their participation in charity work that is deemed most impactful and innovative.
Founded in 2007, the Tencent Charity Foundation has been committed to promoting altruism and supporting people in need.
