HKBU hosted the award presentation ceremony of the KT Awards 2024 on 2 May to honour the exceptional staff who have made significant contribution to knowledge transfer. Professor Cheung Yiu-ming, Chair Professor of the Department of Computer Science, and Dr Kwong Chi-man, Associate Professor of the Department of History, were respectively awarded the HKBU Innovation Award and the HKBU Knowledge Transfer Award.
Entitled "Lip-password for Personal Identity Verification", Professor Cheung's winning project has developed a new, innovative, and promising solution for personal identity verification by matching password information with the underlying behavioural characteristics of lip motion simultaneously. This approach aims to enhance privacy protection compared to face recognition.
Dr Kwong’s winning project is titled "Revisiting the Wartime History of Hong Kong through GIS-Based Historical Spatial Data Platforms". Through the creation of Geographic information system-based interactive maps since 2018, his research provides a comprehensive and accessible map of Hong Kong's wartime history. His work has not only transformed the work processes of various professionals but has also introduced the history of wartime Hong Kong to the general public in an innovative and engaging manner.
The HKBU Innovation Award is sponsored by the University Grants Committee (UGC) and the Innovation and Technology Commission whereas the HKBU Knowledge Transfer Award is sponsored by the UGC. Both awards are administered by the HKBU Knowledge Transfer Committee through the Knowledge Transfer Office.
