HKBU’s School of Business hosted the Dean's Cup Business Innovation Gymnasium (BIG) 9.0 Grand Final at Cyberport on 30 May. Among the six finalist teams comprised of HKBU students, the "FIP Analyzer" team has been crowned the champion with their app-based diagnostic algorithm for feline infectious peritonitis (FIP), a disease known for its challenging diagnosis.
At the event, Dr Marta Dowejko, Director of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Centre, praised the game-changing role of BIG’s mentorship network. She also applauded all the competitors for their remarkable journey, from the 130 submissions in the preliminary round, to the 30 semi-finalist pitches, and finally the six finalist teams.
The diagnostic algorithm developed by the "FIP Analyzer" team offers the promise of early FIP detection, bridging the gap between worried cat owners and timely veterinary care. They have won a cash prize of HK$12,000 and will be sponsored to attend the Web Summit in Portugal in November. They are set for the official launch of their company in June, turning their winning idea into a reality.
All the finalists of the competition are entitled to participate in the Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University United International College (BNU-HKBU UIC) startup competition in Zhuhai in September.
