The Institute of Creativity (IoC) hosted a seminar on 27 September featuring distinguished editors from the academic journal, The Innovation. This was the first seminar in the Editors’ Series, one of IoC’s new initiatives, to further promote transdisciplinary and theme-based research. The event attracted a full house of scholars eager to gain insights from the editorial team.

The seminar welcomed Professor Chen Ke, Director General of The Innovation, who provided a detailed background of the journal, highlighting its mission and the developments on the horizon. One of the key highlights was the establishment of The Innovation Academy (TIA) in Hong Kong, a new initiative aimed at fostering a collaborative environment for researchers to connect and grow.

Professor Chen was then joined by Professor Wang Gang and Professor Wang Huaiyu from the Chinese Academy of Sciences for an interactive discussion. The speakers provided valuable insights into what they were looking for in scholarly publishing, offering attendees an opportunity to understand the editorial perspective and the manuscript submission and review processes.

IoC has been at the forefront of strengthening the research culture, nurturing a critical mass of research talent, and enhancing research performance on campus. The event not only provided a platform for knowledge exchange, but also strengthened bonds within the academic community, especially for veteran scholars and young researchers.

Launched in 2020, The Innovation publishes both basic and applied research with significant societal impact. Its 2023 impact factor is 33.2, placing it just behind the two prestigious journals Nature and Science. The impact factor reflects the relative importance of a journal within its field.
