The Academy of Music organised the inaugural HKBU Secondary School Songwriting Competition this year to stimulate students’ creativity and artistic talents, and to encourage them to express themselves through music. With the theme “Dream”, the competition attracted more than 30 students from 19 secondary schools.
Wong Yu-sheung and Kenson Wong Tsz-lung, students from the Henrietta Secondary School, secured the champion and 1st runner-up respectively. Phoenix Harper Broderick from the Discovery Bay International School won the 2nd runner-up. All three of them received a cash coupon. The award presentation ceremony was held on 5 October.
Members of the judging panel included Mr Carl Wong and Mr Adrian Chan, renowned Hong Kong producers; Ms Viki Chan, Artist and Repertoire Consultant; and Dr Edmond Tsang, Associate Professor of Practice of the Academy of Music. The evaluation criteria encompassed the song’s thematic relevance, the originality and creativity in its lyrics and melody, the quality of its musical composition and arrangement, the vocal performance, as well as the overall impact and emotional connection it conveyed.
Through this competition, the Academy of Music aims to foster artistic growth among secondary school students and provide a supportive yet competitive environment that develops their creative potential.
