The School of Chinese Medicine, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Authentication Centre of Valuable Chinese Medicines, hosted the 2024 Hong Kong Summit on Quality Control of Valuable Chinese Medicines on campus on 19 October. The event attracted over 100 participants from the Chinese medicine industry and academia.
The Summit discussed topics such as herbal medicine identification and the sustainable development of the herbal resource. Four insightful lectures were delivered on the topics “The application of classical and high throughput DNA sequencing for the authentication of herbal material”, “Research on Quality Assurance Systems for Cicadae Periostracum Resources”, “The mechanism of anti-colitis effects of Astragali polysaccharide RAP”, and “A Chemical Marker for Screening Sulfur-treated Herbal Medicines”. The scholars engaged the attendees in insightful discussions, fostering meaningful exchanges.
Since its inception in 2018, the Summit has aimed to foster communication and collaboration between industry and academia, advance the standardisation and internationalisation of traditional Chinese medicine, and enhance public confidence in the quality of valuable Chinese medicines.
