Two teams of Journalism students representing The Young Reporter, an English news publication run by students of the Department of Journalism, won two awards at the inaugural “Yahoo! Hong Kong Student Journalist Award”. HKBU also clinched the “Runner-up Award” in the overall competition.
Nansen Chen Yik-nam, Tricia Li Sin-tung, and James Modesto have been awarded the “Outstanding News Report Award – Environmental Protection, Social Responsibility, Corporate Governance (ESG)” with their news story titled "Hong Kong recycling industry faces uncertainty over waste charging scheme". Meanwhile, Chu Yuqi, Mo Chengqi and Shuai Juncong, received the “Outstanding News Report Award - Diversity & Inclusion (D&I)” for their winning story "Hong Kong: Sweltering summers challenge residents of 'pigeon cages' as temperatures soar”. These two awards were both of the English reporting category.
The competition aims to encourage and recognise aspiring students dedicated to pursuing a career in the journalism industry. By providing a platform to showcase students' journalistic professionalism, it helps deepen their understanding of current issues and enhance their news writing skills.
